Inanda Community Radio was granted a 4-year community sound broadcasting licenses in 2006, the station started broadcasting on the 12 April 2009. The station is rooted in the community, enjoying support of various formations, and participating actively in the Urban Renewal Project of INK area. We have been mandated to serve the developmental needs linked with the Urban Renewal Projects currently taking place within the broadcast footprint.
The station is broadcasting programmes that deal with the daily challenges facing women, youth, children, people with disabilities and the community at large. These programmes will be looked from the angle of how the INK Urban Renewal Node implementation is addressing these issues. The focus of the programmes will be on ensuing that opportunities due to the community are given prominence through the airwaves.
The station will maintain strong relationships with the local government and more especially the Area Based Management of INK (Inanda, Ntuzuma, Kwa-Mashu), which deals with developmental issues in the area. This is part of the Presidential Urban Renewal Node, which we will treat as one of the priority community developmental projects within the eThekwini Municipality, falling directly on our mandate to broadcast. The station will ensure that our programmes are aligned with those of the national and local government, and how these impact on the grassroots communities.
