uMlalazi Municipality Mayor Cllr Thelumoya together with the KZN MEC for Human Settlement Mr Ravi Pillay, Officially Launched the KwaMpungose Housing Project which will benefit 1000 households from war 9,10,13 and 16. As part of the Launch The Leadership handed over a fully furnished show house to Mrs Thokozile Zulu (Ward 16), a pensioner who currently lives with her 49 year old daughter who is psychologically ill and also with her 16 grandchildren whom some of them are still at school and some have completed their matric but are unable to find stable jobs.

The Provincial and Local leadership then headed off to Ward 10, in Mtilombo area, to officially mark the construction of Mrs Gutu Sikakane’s house, who is also a pensioner and is currently living with her grandson who has completed matric and does piece jobs in community projects around the area.

Mrs Sikakane is wheelchair bound now, because of her age she is unable to walk anymore. She is also taking chronic medication for diabetes and arthritis and she needed extra care as she was unable to do things on her own so a care giver was assigned to her on a full time basis to look after her.

A formal handing over ceremony was held in Ward 10, Nkume Sports field, where the MEC, District Mayor Nonhle Mkhulusi and Local Mayor addressed the respective community.

Mr Pillay in his address warned political leaders against the recent incidents where they interfered with service delivery because of the assumption that it is part of campaigning for the up coming elections(29 November 2017).

“This project was initiated a few years back, we will provide services to the community no matter what time it is and no matter what people assume, people deserve decent houses and human settlement will deliver them”
