This Saturday, the Rainbow Restaurant, in association with Concerts SA, will be wishing the much loved and very talented Ildo Nandja a fond farewell before he sets off the complete his studies, as he has been accepted into the Masters program at the Fontys Academy of Performing Arts in the Netherlands!

Joining Ildo on stage will be Shem Mahabeer on keys and Sbu Zondi on drums.

Recognised as an outstanding and disciplined bass player and soloist, Ildo has collaborated with countless established local and international musicians.

Ildo Nandja engaged with playing music from a young age, starting with percussion instruments. Through his involvement in a local music and dance company, Ildo began playing the timbila, a traditional xylophone from Mozambique. His dedication has led him to perform in productions, festivals in France, Angola, Namibia, Portugal, the Netherlands, Libya, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Reunion Island.

Released in February 2016, Ildo’s debut album Paz a Todos [Peace to All] features a range of sounds and genres that combine his background in traditional music with the harmonic and melodic complexity of jazz. The full-length album features a repertoire of original material composed and arranged by the solo artist. Apart from double bass, Nandja also plays electric bass, and on some tracks provides guitar, percussion and vocals. Several local and international musicians also contributed to the recording and the resulting blend of jazz, contemporary world music with Latin timbres offers listeners a distinctive harmonic signature.

Come and give Ildo a warm Rainbow send off and wish him huge success on his journey.
